Dynasty Buy and Sell

For this dynasty Buy Sell, I'm going to take a look at two WRs from the same team, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. They sort of had polar opposite seasons. During the first 8 weeks of the seasons, Kupp was on fire. He was the 2nd best WR behind just Michael Thomas. He was averaging 21 points per game and people were going nuts. I remember.....I had a lot of DM's asking about trading players like DeAndre Hopkins straight up to get him. And I can't really blame people for having those questions, he was doing great and the Rams were throwing a ton.

Robert Woods on the other hand was disappointing. The 2018 WR11 was now just the WR22 after 8 weeks and averaging a very pedestrian 12 points per game. Nearly 5 points per game less than he averaged the previous season. He had 20 less receptions than Kupp, nearly half the yardage and zero touchdowns. Kupp had taken over as the Alpha wide receiver and it appeared it was now his offense.

But then week 9 happened and things changed. Over the final 7 weeks of the season (excluding week 17) Cooper Kupp finished as the WR43. His 21 points per game dropped to 11. Over those last 7 games, Kupp only managed 270 receiving yards. His only saving grace was he managed to reel in 4 touchdowns to help salvage the 2nd half of the season.

Robert Woods on the other hand finished as the overall WR13 over the final 2 months of the season by racking up a nice 45 catches for just under 600 yards. Oh, and all of this despite missing week 11 for personal reasons. On a points per game basis, he was tied with Julio Jones as the WR2 over those last 6 games of the season.

So, what does this have to do with dynasty? My opinion is that Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods are actually very similar players. I wouldn't consider either one to be an elite asset. I see both of them as mid-range WR2. "But Kupp is a decent amount more expensive than Woods in dynasty. According to FantasyPros dynasty rankings, he's right up their in the 29-30 range above players like Courtland Sutton, Miles Sanders, Patrick Mahomes, A.J. Brown and Lamar Jackson. All who I'd MUCH rather have than Kupp. Woods on the other hand is ranked close to the 60 range, and honestly I think you could get him much cheaper than that.

"But Kupp is younger." This might surprise a lot of people, but Robert Woods is only 1 year older than Cooper Kupp despite entering the league 4 years earlier. Woods will be entering his age 28 season, while Kupp his 27.

In closing, I would try to move Cooper Kupp for one of above mentioned players if you can, and if you are a WIN NOW team, look to the Woods owner and see what it would cost to pry him away. I'm guessing it's cheaper than you think.
