Dynasty Stud: Cam Akers

A player I have been high on since he landed in L.A. is Cam Akers. I ranked him as my #2 dynasty rookie behind Jonathan Taylor last offseason. We all saw what Todd Gurley was able to do in the same system and Akers was a similar prospect, so it was easy to get excited. His rookie season left a lot to be desired however. An early season rib injury forced him to be limited and miss 3-games, leading to an RB45 overall finish. It's how he finished down the stretch however that gives excitement for what we can expect going forward.

From weeks 13 through the divisional round of the playoffs, Akers averaged 22 rushes per game to go along with 2 receptions per game. Those 24 touches per game rank behind only Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook and Derrick Henry. It's that kind of elite workload we look for in our running backs, and I think it will continue for him in year two. He proved he can handle a large workload in college evident by his 39.8% college dominator in college.

Akers has the talent, the age and the opportunity we are looking, but more than that, he now has an amazing situation surrounding him. One knock against him going into 2020 was the Rams offensive line situation being one of the worst in the league. Well, they turned that around and surprised everyone finishing as PFF's third ranked offensive line this season. They also got a big upgrade at the Quarterback position, swapping out Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford. L.A. was 23rd in scoring this past season and the hope is for that to jump significantly with Stafford now behind center.

All in all, Akers checks every box you want in your fantasy running backs, and I have moved him up to my RB6 in dynasty.
