Fantasy Stud: Justin Herbert
Justin Herbert was someone I was very high on last offseason. In fact I ranked him ahead of both Burrow and Tua. I even wrote an article titled 'The Next Fantasy Stud'. The guy was incredible and pretty much smashed every rookie record for a QB. My dynasty scoring currently has him as the QB5. Another account who I communicate with regularly, @snizfantasyfootball also a fan and offered to give his opinion on why he is an amazing QB to have in dynasty.
Justin Herbert is a quarterback to be very excited about in dynasty leagues.
The 22 year old rookie QB out of Oregon is a player who was ranked as the QB3 by most in his class coming into the 2020 season due to the coaching staff choosing Tyrod Taylor to start over Herbert to begin the season. Despite the news, Herbert’s story would change forever in week 2 due to a fluke pregame injury to Taylor. The news came right before game time and Herbert was forced to start. Despite the immense amount of pressure of playing against the defending super bowl champs, Herbert was able to lead his team into overtime while throwing for over 300 yards and adding 2 total touchdowns.
During the course of the 2020 season, Herbert was able to throw for 4,034 yards (7th), 28 passing touchdowns (10th), and was able to finish as the QB9 in 15 games played while averaging 22.1 points per game (9th). There’s no doubt that Herbert is very talented and he only has room to grow from a very successful rookie season. Herbert’s supporting cast was also very beneficial to helping the young QB catch a glimpse of his maximum potential in his rookie season. It is also safe to say that the weapons on this team benefit from Herbert’s presence as well. Something that has to change is the offensive line. The Chargers offensive line has been bad for several seasons, and this year ranked dead last according to PFF's grading.
Herbert is a player who should now be valued as a high-end QB1 in all dynasty leagues after putting up historic numbers in his rookie season. There is no question that he will continue to become a better leader and quarterback on the football field.
