My Guy! Jordan Addison

60-Second Read by Jacob Rhodes

Jordan Addison is easily one of my favorite rookies in the 2023 class. He was a highly productive collegiate receiver, winning the Biletnekoff award in 2021. He caught 100 passes for nearly 1600 yards and 17 touchdowns that year. And while yes, he is a small WR, that hasn’t mattered in the NFL as of late with guys like DeVonta Smith & Hollywood Brown. It won’t matter with Addison.

"Justin Jefferson limits any ceiling that Addison may have had on another team, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still be a high-end WR2 or even low-end WR1 in his rookie season."

Now, some may say his situation isn’t ideal, becoming the WR2 for Kirk Cousins, being stuck behind Justin Jefferson. But if you dig a little bit, you’ll find that he has a ton of opportunity in the Vikings offense in year 1. Jordan Addison played A LOT in the slot in 2021, nearly 70%. But that number also dipped to around 25% the following year when he transferred to USC, putting in a lot more snaps on the outside. This shows me that he projects as the outside WR2 for the team, but will also be playing a lot in the slot, ideally soaking up a large target share. The exact role that one Adam Thielen dominated in Minnesota for years. Well, Thielen has now moved on to Carolina, leaving 107 vacated targets for Addison to take full control of.

I will admit, Thielen does have some big shoes to fill, but we know Addison is a far superior prospect. What the vacated targets primarily shows us is that there is a lot of opportunity for Addison. And with first round draft capital, he will get every chance to prove himself worthy of the opportunities he receives. Yes, Justin Jefferson limits any ceiling that Addison may have had on another team, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still be high-end WR2 or even low-end WR1 in his rookie season. He’ll get enough target volume to do so. And before you say Kirk Cousins can’t support 2 WR1’s in fantasy, well, he did in 2020 when JJ was WR5 and Thielen was WR10. Addison is a smash value right now in both rookie drafts and best ball drafts. Make sure you get a share of him in all formats.
